An Affair to Remember

This classic movie is the second of three movies with the same story/characters. Deborah Kerr Co-stars with Cary Grant (Richard Denning also plays a slightly smaller part), Kerr plays Terry McKay a witty woman engaged to Denning's character Kenneth Bradley or Ken. Grant plays Nickie Ferrante a famous playboy recently engaged to American Millionaire Lois Clark(Neva Patterson). They meet on a cruise from Europe to New York, over time they fall in love. For a time they try to not see each other to keep rumors from spreading, but after finding out it hasn't made a difference they decide why bother hiding and spend the last evening on board together. After this they make the promise to meet in the Empire State Building in exactly six months, (the time of the meeting in the movie is curiously exactly halfway through the movie.) Terry(Kerr) has wonderful success in making money by singing, Nickie(Grant) eventually gets back into his grove as a painter and starts getting along. On the day of the meeting, Terry goes back to New York and sees her fiancee, soon after just across the street from the assigned meeting place, she is hit by a car, and is paralyzed. From then on it's pain and fixing what has been broken. 

Nickie Ferrante: I'll just take my ego for a walk.

Nickie Ferrante: Tell me. Did you write the song "I'll Never Smile Again"?
Terry McKay: [laughs] No. But I'm thinking of writing one called "Moon Over La Gabriella." Do you think it will ever take the place of night baseball?
[Shakes her head]

  

Nickie Ferrante: But you have such an honest face.
Terry McKay: I have?
Nickie Ferrante: I can trust you can't I?
Terry McKay: Yes, I suppose so.
Nickie Ferrante: Good, come with me.
Terry McKay: Yes, but the Captain has an honest face too! Why can't you tell him your troubles?

 

 

Announcer:Now then, one thing - watch the camera. When the red light is on, you're on.
Nickie Ferrante: Yeah? Well, it's on.

 

 

Terry McKay: What makes life so difficult?
Nickie Ferrante: People?

 

 

Terry McKay: I'm getting married and I want you to be the first to congratulate me.
NYC Cab Driver: Marriage is something to rush to?

 

 

Nickie Ferrante: [opening his cigarette case] You don't happened to have match?
Terry McKay: You could light it from that inscription, couldn't you?
