Over the years there have been many versions and reboots of the science fiction series that gathered a large following in the mid-to-late sixty's. Some were well liked, others not so much. Some people still prefer the original series even today. Here is a look into the most popular sequels, new versions and reboots.
Star Trek The Original Series
Starting off with Leonard Nimoy, Nichelle Nichols, DeForest Kelley, George Takei and William Shatner in the mid sixties. No one involved in the making of the show knew at the time, even though they may have hoped, what a colossal hit it would be. Over the years it's popularity may have faded here and there, but it always bounced back and is still a very well known series.
Star Trek The Movie
In a time when Star Wars was the newest and coolest space series. This movie successfully opened the door to the possibility of more movies.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
After the success and cancellation of the original series. The next way to go was obviously movies.
The Wrath of Khan is one of the best known movies in the Star Trek franchise.
Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
A not as well known.
Star Trek The Next Generation
Many fans either completely shun this series or love it. I am definitely one who loves it. In my opinion the acting is 10 times better. The sets and experiences are better developed and the overall story lines are more engaging. Of course like I said, that's just my opinion.
Star Trek
Many feared that the 2009 reboot staring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Jon Cho, Anton Yelchin and Simon Pegg wouldn't go over well. The movie is basically a prequel to the original series. Showing young versions of all the characters Star Trek purists knew and loved.
Star Trek into Darkness
The sequel to the prequel that also introduced the most famous villain in the Star Trek universe. Khan. Was it to soon to have such a fan service villain? Who knows. It was well written so who cares.
Star Trek Beyond
The newest installment. The first prequel to the original series stated clearly that the timeline was disrupted and they could do anything they want with the ending. Including killing off characters. Who knows whats going to happen next. The next movie is already green-light, but with the recent death of Chekov aka Anton Yelchin his character will most likely disappear between movies with some sort of explanation, but no goodbye.
