Sherlock: The British are coming

In the last few years a hugely popular detective show has changed the game of television. Sherlock a BBC drama, is a modern adaptation of well renown classic Sherlock Holmes. It has gathered popularity world wide for its intricate story lines and lovable characters. Season 4 is due to premiere next January, the last episode released being a Christmas special last year.

Thanks to the popularity of Sherlock and Doctor Who I found several other mystery drama from the BBC and other networks, and even one that is an Australian series.

Death in Paradise

The first one is a detective murder mystery show based in the Caribbean. A Detective Inspector from England gets transferred to the small Caribbean island of St.Marie. It has a lighthearted feel and beautiful tropical surroundings. Extremely likable characters and wonderful plot twists all come together to make this show on top of my must watch shows. (I actually got my whole family watching this show and now it's something they all love.)

The Doctor Blake Mysteries

This is the Australian show. I'm not sure how I even found it. I think one night we were watching Death in Paradise on Masterpiece Mysteries and this was on next. It looked interesting and a few episodes later we're hooked. It's set in the 60s and it's about an Australian doctor (Doctor Blake) who is a medical examiner for the police. He usually goes above and beyond his job description to figure out the case and usually end up in trouble, but he does solve it usually. This show is very dramatic with characters you're truly sad to see bad things happen to.

Father Brown

This show is a bit more comedic that Dr.Blake. It's set in the 50s and is about a priest who plays detective whenever given the chance. He has a small team who help him, the Lady Felicia her likable chauffeur Sid and the Parrish secretary Mrs.McCarthy. (Who is usually an unwilling party to the fathers investigating.)

Endeavour

Set in the 60s Endeavour is a British drama and kind of a prequel to the 1987-2000 drama series that followed Inspector Endeavour Morse. In this series we see Morse as a young constable at the beginning of his career. Under the guidance of Inspector Thursday he solves many complicated cases. Sometimes using his extensive knowledge of opera to decrypt clues and solve puzzles. (A little random, but unpredictable and fascinating!)

The Great British Bake Off

This is the season I've been watching. Although there is a new season currently airing in England.

Even though it doesn't fit the genre I also love The Great British Bake Off. So many American cooking competition shows are annoying and loud. This show is a nice change. The hosts have humor and puns galore. The contestants are relatable and make you really route for them. Most of the time the finalists are all so great I don't care to much who wins because everyone is so lovely.
