Paramount Pictures (1940) B&W, 85 Mins
It's a stormy night in New York City, all is spooky. The lights are out and Mary (Paulette Goddard) is packing for Cuba. She enjoys the storm but not the tales of the spooky castle she has inherited that is supposed to be haunted. Larry Lawrence (Bob Hope) is a radio star, unfortunately he rubbed a fellow the wrong way who happened to be a gangster. Goes to see him, thinks he shoots a man, takes refuge in Mary room and is smuggled out in her trunk. They all go to Cuba, Mary, Larry and his comical hired man Alex, he and Alex make the ideal team, Alex pale with fear and Larry determined to protect Mary from the "Ghosts". This is an all time favorite, not really a 1940's horror movie, more like a mystery, suspense and comedy.

Larry: You mean like Democrats?
Larry: Me, I'm mentally retarded. I'm still 11 years old when it comes to the 4th of July, circuses and haunted castles.
